Trump says Israel jets standing down, Iran’s nuclear rebuild ‘will never’ happen

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday accused both Israel and Iran of violating a recently brokered ceasefire, expressing clear dissatisfaction with Israel’s military posture and urging it to stand down from launching further strikes against Iran.

Speaking to reporters while en route to the NATO summit in The Hague, Trump said he was displeased with the actions of both nations but pointedly criticised Israel for preparing additional military operations.

“I’m not happy with them. I’m not happy with Iran either, but I’m really unhappy if Israel is going out this morning,” Trump told the press pool.

The remarks came just hours after a fragile truce went into effect between the two adversaries, following 12 days of escalating hostilities that included missile exchanges and US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites.

Trump demands restraint

In a strongly worded post on Truth Social, Trump issued a direct warning to Israel, making it clear that further military action would be deemed unacceptable by the United States.

“ISRAEL. DO NOT DROP THOSE BOMBS. IF YOU DO IT IS A MAJOR VIOLATION. BRING YOUR PILOTS HOME, NOW! DONALD J. TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES,” he wrote.

Shortly thereafter, the US president indicated that Israeli warplanes would not proceed with attacks on Iranian targets.

“All planes will turn around and head home, while doing a friendly ‘Plane Wave’ to Iran. Nobody will be hurt, the Ceasefire is in effect!” he said, again via Truth Social.

In a separate post, the president said that Iran will never rebuild their nuclear facilities.

Tensions flare after missile strikes

Earlier in the day, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz had instructed the Israel Defense Forces to retaliate “forcefully” against what he called Iranian breaches of the ceasefire.

The orders were given after Israel claimed a missile had been launched from Iranian territory into Israeli airspace — a charge Tehran has denied.

Iranian state media outlet IRIB said the country had not fired any missiles after the truce came into effect, but it provided no further details.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had previously said that Tehran would halt hostilities if Israel did the same.

The status of the missile strike — and whether it was a coordinated action or a rogue incident — remains unclear.

The ceasefire deal

The ceasefire was brokered by Trump following intense US diplomatic engagement with both sides.

Media reports suggest that the agreement came after direct talks between Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as well as back-channel communications between US officials and Iran.

Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and special envoy Steve Witkoff were all reportedly involved in shaping the ceasefire terms.

The deal followed a significant escalation in regional tensions, including US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan, which Trump claimed had “completely and totally obliterated” their targets.

Iran responded with missile launches against a US base in Qatar, which caused no casualties and were seen as a measured response intended to avoid further escalation.
